Crawling insects

Control of crawling insects in livestock facilities

Crawling insects can hide and multiply in cracks, joints, floors, walls, storage areas and other hard-to-reach parts of livestock facilities. As well as causing nuisance and affecting animal welfare, some of these pests can help to maintain and spread contaminants within the facility. An insecticide for crawling insects acts specifically against these pests as part of a comprehensive biosafety programme. Effective control requires identifying the routes they use and where they hide, maintaining good cleaning standards and planning treatments according to the level of infestation and the characteristics of each facility.

Flea prevention and treatment on farms

Fleas are an example of a crawling pest whose control requires planned action on the environment, not just on what is visible. When using an insecticide for fleas on farms, particular attention should be paid to areas where different stages of their life cycle may develop or remain, such as cracks, bedding and areas where organic matter accumulates. Cleaning, eliminating potential sources and treating critical points help to reduce the population and limit new infestations. Including these actions in a regular monitoring programme keeps crawling pests under more stable control in the facilities.
